Auburn’s Casey Mize faced one batter over the minimum as he tossed a complete-game, no-hitter in the Tigers 6-0 win over Northeastern on Friday night. Mize threw the ninth no-hitter in college baseball this season and the second by an SEC team. Missouri, led by Bryce Montes De Oca had a combined no-hitter last Friday against Maryland-Baltimore County. It was the ninth no-hitter in Auburn history, and first since 2002.
Auburn is one of three undefeated Division I teams in the nation, joining Florida State and Louisville. Kentucky handed Texas Tech its first loss of the season with a 10-7 win over the Red Raiders in Lexington. Cal State Fullerton knocked previously undefeated Oregon State 5-3 in Corvallis.
Pitching was the story on Friday as Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss also tossed shutouts. A trio of Gators combined on 2-hit shutout against Rhode Island. Brady Singer fired seven scoreless innings (2 H, 2 BB, 8 K). Four Bulldogs combined on 3-hit shutout (14 Ks) against Toledo. Chase Adkins (2-0) tossed six scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. Ole Miss Brady Fiegl (4-0) logged seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. South Carolina recorded 17 strikeouts in the win over Princeton.
A number of SEC teams have altered their weekend schedules due to weather. Alabama, Arkansas, Miss. State and Ole Miss played double headers on Friday. Florida, South Carolina and Missouri will play two games on Saturday due to weather concerns. More changes could be made to the schedule as the front approaches.
