SEC Baseball Recaps (March 17)

sec-baseball-logoArkansas was impressive in its three-game series sweep of the Kentucky Wildcats in a battle of Top 5 teams. The Razorbacks dominated the Wildcats in a double-header sweep on Saturday.  Arkansas posted a 14-2 win in game won and completed the sweep with a 16-8 win in the nightcap.

Arkansas roughed up the UK pitching staff.  The Razorbacks hit 10 home runs in the double header, including five home runs in each game.  Jax Biggers and Carson Shaddy were among the many hitting stars. Biggers went 7-for-9 with four runs scored, two home runs and six RBIs from the leadoff spot. He also drew two walks. Shaddy was 6-for-9 with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and four RBIs from the ninth spot in the order.  Kentucky’s starting pitchers were tagged for 16 runs and 17 hits in five innings for work.

Auburn and Vanderbilt also secured series wins on Saturday. The Tigers used an 8-run eighth inning to rally past Texas A&M 11-5. Steven Williams had an eighth-inning grand slam for the Tigers. Vanderbilt took a 1-0 lead into the eighth inning and then erupted for seven runs in the eighth and tacked on two more in the for a 10-1 series-clinching win at Miss. State. The Commodores pounded out 16 hits. VU starter Patrick Raby tossed five scoreless innings.

Four SEC series will be decided on Sunday as Georgia-Alabama, Florida-South Carolina, Missouri-LSU and Tennessee-Ole Miss have split the first two games of their weekend series.
