Minor League Baseball Tops 41 Million in Attendance

IMG_5733.jpgA total of 41,832,364 fans passed through the gates at Minor League Baseball games in 2017, the fifth-highest attendance total in the history of the organization, which was established in 1901.

Minor League Baseball’s 176 teams in 15 leagues drew over 41 million fans for the 13th consecutive season with overall attendance increasing 1.1 percent (455,162 fans) over 2016 and average attendance rising 2.4 percent (from 3,998 to 4,095) over last season.

AHSAA Scoreboard (Sept. 22)

ahsaa2A total of 28 teams topped the 50-point mark on Friday, including Mountain Brook’s thrilling 51-50 double-overtime win over Spain Park.

Eight teams topped the 60-point mark, including Hale County’s 73-0 blowout win over Holt. W.S. Neal (67), Hoover (63), Maplesville (63), Montgomery Academy (62), Central Phenix-City (62) and Crossville (61) all scored 60 points.┬áHere is the AHSAA Week 5 scoreboard. The Horseshoe, Army and Super Heroes

IMG_5808.jpgMy trip to Columbus, Ohio was a grand slam. The three-day trip allowed me to check off a new college football stadium, s new college football team, state capital and a very unique breakfast locale.

I’ll start with the food because it was a very cool breakfast place and the food was excellent.

The Saturday morning breakfast was at Super Chef in downtown Columbus and a short walk from the state capital. The on-line menu grabbed my attention and the decor inside was like never before. The walls were covered with Super Heroes, from posters to comic books to prints. It was a Who’s Who of Super Heroes. I even found The Flash on one of the walls. It was very cool. University of Akron to Bring Back Baseball

akron_z_logo_2015More often than not, schools are dropping college baseball programs. Kudos to the University of Akron, who announced today the return of the school’s baseball program.

Akron dropped baseball following the 2015 season. The school also disbanded the program from 1933-46. The sport is expected to return for the 2019-20 academic year.

2018 SEC Football Schedule Released

secfootballlogoThe Southeastern Conference today announced the football schedules for all 14 SEC schools for the 2018 season.

With 13 playing weekends, the 2018 schedule includes one open date for each team and conference contests scheduled each week beginning the second weekend of September.

Each SEC team will play eight conference football games to include six games against division opponents and two games against non-division opponents. One of the non-division opponents will be a permanent annual opponent and the other non-division opponent will rotate each year.

The season begins the weekend of September 1 with 14 games, including five neutral site games on opening weekend.

The 2018 season will culminate with the SEC Championship Game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Saturday, December 1. It will be the 27th edition of the game and the 25th in the city of Atlanta.
