East Carolina Picked to Win American Athletic Conference

american athletic conferenceAfter winning its second American Athletic Conference baseball title in 2018, ECU was chosen as the 2019 favorite by the league’s nine coaches in the conference’s preseason coaches’ poll.

The 2018 American Player of the Year, ECU junior outfielder Bryant Packard, was voted as the conference’s 2019 Preseason Player of the Year, while UConn’s All-America southpaw Mason Feole was unanimously tabbed as The American’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year. St. John’s Tabbed to Win Big East Baseball Championship

big east baseball logoThe reigning BIG EAST regular season and tournament champions, St. John’s, was picked unanimously as the preseason favorite to win the league in the annual December poll conducted by the league’s seven head coaches. The Red Storm won the BIG EAST Championship for a league-best ninth time last season.

Along with the poll, the coaches selected Xavier junior designated hitter Conor Grammes and Creighton junior outfielder Will Robertson as the Co-Preseason Players of the Year; and Seton Hall junior right-hander Ricky DeVito as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

Wade LeBlanc, Husky Football and Chowder

Safeco Field.JPGSeattle is one of my favorite cities and Husky Stadium is one of college football’s most scenic venues.

While on this trip, I was able to take in the Texas Rangers-Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. I had great seats in the club level, thanks to Mariners play-by-play announcer Aaron Goldsmith. A New Ballpark in Kingsport?

Kingsport Mets LogoA new stadium could be in the works for the Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets, who play in the rookie level Appalachian League. The Mets currently play their home games at Hunter Wright Stadium, which opened in 1995 and seats 2,500 people.

Prior to moving to Wright Stadium, the Mets played at J Fred Johnson Park, which was also the home to the Dobbins-Bennett HS baseball team. Dobbins-Bennett HS and Gate City (Vir.) HS play home games at Hunter Wright Stadium. Continue reading “A New Ballpark in Kingsport?”

MLB Hosts Pair of 1-Game Playoffs Today

MLB LogoFor the first time in Major League Baseball history, two one-game playoffs will be played on the same day to decide division titles. The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers will meet in the NL Central tiebreaker at Wrigley Field. Both teams are 95-67.  The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies will meet in the NL West tiebreaker at Dodger Stadium. Both teams are 91-71. ESPN will televise both games. Phillies Prospect Spins Playoff No-Hitter
