Seattle is one of my favorite cities and Husky Stadium is one of college football’s most scenic venues.
While on this trip, I was able to take in the Texas Rangers-Seattle Mariners game at Safeco Field. I had great seats in the club level, thanks to Mariners play-by-play announcer Aaron Goldsmith. A new stadium could be in the works for the Kingsport (Tenn.) Mets, who play in the rookie level Appalachian League. The Mets currently play their home games at Hunter Wright Stadium, which opened in 1995 and seats 2,500 people.
Prior to moving to Wright Stadium, the Mets played at J Fred Johnson Park, which was also the home to the Dobbins-Bennett HS baseball team. Dobbins-Bennett HS and Gate City (Vir.) HS play home games at Hunter Wright Stadium. Continue reading “A New Ballpark in Kingsport?”
For the first time in Major League Baseball history, two one-game playoffs will be played on the same day to decide division titles. The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers will meet in the NL Central tiebreaker at Wrigley Field. Both teams are 95-67. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies will meet in the NL West tiebreaker at Dodger Stadium. Both teams are 91-71. ESPN will televise both games. Philadelphia Phillies prospect Spencer Howard fired a no-hitter in the Lakewood (NJ) Blue Claws win over the Kannapolis Intimidators in the South Atlantic League (Class A) Playoffs on Friday. FOX Sports Detroit has replaced Detroit Tigers announcers Mario Impemba and Rod Allen for the remainder of the season. The Quad Cities River Bandits (Class A, Midwest League) set the all-time single-season strikeout record on Sunday, Aug. 26. The pitching staff recorded 16 strikeouts in the loss to the Burlington Bees to set the record.
Quad Cities pitchers have recorded 1,429 strikeouts this season, breaking the record of 1,421 strikeouts set last season by the Durham Bulls (Class AAA, International League).

The 2019 Major League Baseball schedule was released on August 22. The 2019 season will begin with an Opening Series between the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners in Tokyo, Japan on March 20-21.
The traditional Opening Day is scheduled for March 28, continuing the new scheduling format that begins the season with an additional week to allow each club three or four more off-days throughout the year.
