SEC Baseball Recaps (March 18)

sec-baseball-logoArkansas and Vanderbilt opened SEC play with three-game sweeps. Arkansas swept Kentucky in Fayetteville. Vanderbilt swept Miss. State in Starkville.

Vanderbilt held MSU to four runs in the weekend series. Arkansas belted 10 home runs in the sweep of the Wildcats.

Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss all had series wins.

Florida, Georgia and Vanderbilt had road series wins.

On the national scene, Siena (0-14) and St. Peter’s (0-7) are the last two winless teams in the country.

SEC Baseball Recaps (March 11)

sec-baseball-logoTexas A&M and Ole Miss completed weekend sweeps on Sunday. The Aggies dismantled Long Beach State, outscoring the Dirtbags, 27-3 in the series. Ole Miss swept Eastern Illinois on the final non-conference weekend.

The final undefeated team went down as Louisville suffered its first loss of the season in a 10-3 loss to North Carolina. Louisville was also the last team to lose in 2017.

St. Peter’s (0-6) extended the nation’s longest losing streak to 45 games with a pair of losses at LIU-Brooklyn on Sunday. The Peacocks lost 9-5 and 13-2 (7 innings). St. Peter’s plays at Seton Hall on Wednesday.  Continue reading “SEC Baseball Recaps (March 11)”

APPEL TOSSES NO-HITTER: Central Connecticut State sophomore RHP Matt Appel (Orange, CT) tossed a 9-inning no-hitter in a 2-0 victory over winless Mount St. Mary’s at CCSU Baseball Field on Saturday, March 18. Appel (9 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K) retired the first 13 batters he faced before a CCSU error in the fifth inning. It is the seventh no-hitter in Division I baseball this season.
