2018 CWS LogoArkansas advanced to the 2018 College World Series Championship series with the 5-2 win over No. 1 seed Florida at TD Ameritrade Park. The Razorbacks (3-0) will await the winner of Saturday’s Oregon State (3-1)-Mississippi State (2-1) game. The CWS Championship series begins Monday at 6 p.m. (CT). CWS Recaps (Thursday, June 21)

2018 CWS LogoThree SEC teams – Arkansas, Florid and Miss. State – along with Pac 12 runner up Oregon State make up the Final Four at the 2018 College World Series. This is the second time in CWS history that three teams from the same conference were among the final four teams in Omaha.  Three SEC Eastern Division teams (South Carolina, Florida and Vanderbilt) and Virginia comprised the final four teams in 2011.

An SEC team is guaranteed a spot in the CWS Finals. The SEC team has had a team play in the finals 10 times in the last 11 years, including the 2018 season. Coastal Carolina and Arizona played for the 2016 CWS Championship, which is the only time since 2008 the SEC was not represented in the finals. Continue reading “CWS Recaps (Thursday, June 21)”

CWS Recaps (Tuesday, June 19)

2018 CWS LogoMississippi State went bananas again.

Jordan Westburg, who introduced the “rally banana” to the college baseball world at the 2018 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, drove in seven runs in the Bulldogs 12-2 win over North Carolina on Tuesday morning. Westburg hit a second-inning grand slam and added a three-run double in MSU’s eight-run eighth inning to move the Bulldogs within one win of playing for the national championship.

Florida looked like the No.1 national seed in its 6-1 elimination game win over Texas. Jonathan India knocked in four runs, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning to keep its title hopes alive.

The Arkansas-Texas Tech game was postponed due to the potential of severe weather. The game will played on Wednesday at 11 a.m. on ESPN2. North Carolina and Oregon State will meet in the regularly scheduled game at 6 p.m.

CWS Recaps (Sunday, June 17)

2018 CWS LogoArkansas endured a nearly three-hour rain delay and then scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Texas 11-5 to open bracket two play on Sunday afternoon.

Luke Bonfield stroked a 2-run home run to give the Razorbacks a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning.  Arkansas added two more runs in the sixth inning had the bases loaded when the game was stopped due to a lengthy weather delay. SEC Baseball Recaps (Saturday, May 19)

sec-baseball-logoOle Miss won a share of the SEC Western Division championship; Mississippi State swept No. 1 ranked Florida and Missouri claimed the final SEC Tournament spot with a series-clinching win over Tennessee on Saturday.

For only the second time in league history, nine SEC teams finished with .500 or better conference record (it also happened in 2016).

SEC Baseball Recaps (Friday, May 18)

There is still so much to be played for in the final seven games on the regular-season schedule.  Arkansas and Ole Miss are battling for the SEC Western Division title. The Missouri-Tennessee winner earns the No. 12 seed in next week’s SEC Tournament.

SEC Tournament seeding will be a major factor on the final day of the regular season.

SEC Baseball Recaps (Thursday, May 17)

sec-baseball-logoThe final weekend of the SEC regular season began Thursday night with 12 of the league’s 14 teams jockeying for post-season positioning.

Florida has locked up the No. 1 seed at the 2018 SEC Tournament and Mississippi State, with a thrilling comeback win over the Gators on Thursday night, clinched a tournament berth. Missouri defeated Tennessee 3-2 in 12 innings on Thursday and owns a one-game lead over the Vols for the final tournament berth.

Arkansas and Ole Miss, who are close to locking up first round byes in the SEC Tournament, are battling for the SEC Western Division championship. Arkansas holds a one-game lead over Ole Miss with two games to play. Arkansas needs one more win over Georgia and one loss by Ole Miss at Alabama to clinch the division title. Ole Miss wins the division with three wins over Alabama and one Arkansas loss at Georgia
