2018 CWS LogoThree SEC teams – Arkansas, Florid and Miss. State – along with Pac 12 runner up Oregon State make up the Final Four at the 2018 College World Series. This is the second time in CWS history that three teams from the same conference were among the final four teams in Omaha.  Three SEC Eastern Division teams (South Carolina, Florida and Vanderbilt) and Virginia comprised the final four teams in 2011.

An SEC team is guaranteed a spot in the CWS Finals. The SEC team has had a team play in the finals 10 times in the last 11 years, including the 2018 season. Coastal Carolina and Arizona played for the 2016 CWS Championship, which is the only time since 2008 the SEC was not represented in the finals. Continue reading “CWS Recaps (Thursday, June 21)”

CWS Recaps (Tuesday, June 19)

2018 CWS LogoMississippi State went bananas again.

Jordan Westburg, who introduced the “rally banana” to the college baseball world at the 2018 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, drove in seven runs in the Bulldogs 12-2 win over North Carolina on Tuesday morning. Westburg hit a second-inning grand slam and added a three-run double in MSU’s eight-run eighth inning to move the Bulldogs within one win of playing for the national championship.

Florida looked like the No.1 national seed in its 6-1 elimination game win over Texas. Jonathan India knocked in four runs, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning to keep its title hopes alive.

The Arkansas-Texas Tech game was postponed due to the potential of severe weather. The game will played on Wednesday at 11 a.m. on ESPN2. North Carolina and Oregon State will meet in the regularly scheduled game at 6 p.m.

SEC Baseball Recaps (Thursday, April 26)

sec-baseball-logoFlorida’s Brady Singer and Auburn’s Casey Mize squared off in Gainesville tonight, in what has to be the top pitching matchup of the season in college baseball.  Mize is the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, while Singer is projected as the No. 20 overall pick.

The two right handers did not disappoint as Singer out-dueled Mize in the Gators 3-1 series-opening win.

Singer (9-1) held the Tigers to one run and four hits over seven innings. He added eight strikeouts and walked only two batters.  Mize (8-2) limited the Gators to three runs on three hits. He added 10 strikeouts and walked one batter. Continue reading “SEC Baseball Recaps (Thursday, April 26)”
