College Baseball Diamond Notes (April 7)

NCAA BaseballJunior left-hander Sam Brace threw the first no-hitter in school history as Lawrence Tech (Mich.) blanked Rochester (Mich). 10-0 on Sunday afternoon … It was the 17th no-hitter thrown by an NAIA pitcher this season … VCU shortstop Zac Ching hit for the cycle in the Rams 28-4 win at LaSalle … he accomplished the feat in his first four at-bats of the game … Ching’s cycle was the 10th cycle by an NCAA Division I player this season … Central Missouri (NCAA Division 2) outlasted Missouri Southern State 18-16 as the two teams combined for 11 home runs on Sunday … Central Missouri senior first baseman Michael Sinks had three home runs and seven RBIs for the Mules … Concordia University Chicago (NCAA Division 3) extended its winning streak to 19 games with a 17-6 win over Illinois Tech … Manhattanville College (NCAA Division 3) set school records for runs and hits in a game with a 33-8 win over Wilkes University … The Valiants scored in all nine innings.

SEC Baseball Recaps (March 14)

sec-baseball-logoSoutheastern Conference play begins this weekend and several SEC teams had some final tuneups for the 85th season of SEC play begins Friday.

Alabama belted five home runs in a 14-0 win over Alabama A&M. Hunter Alexander led the charge with two home runs and five RBIs. Auburn (17-1) matched the 1997 CWS team for best 18-game start with a comeback win over Memphis.  Tennessee freshman Sean Hunley threw a complete-game shutout in the win over Western Carolina.

On the national scene, NAIA newcomer Lawrence Tech upended Michigan 8-3 on Wednesday. The Blue Devils are just in their second season of college baseball. The school is located in Southfield, Michigan.

St. Peter’s extended the nation’s longest losing streak to 46 games with a 2-0 loss at Seton Hall on Wednesday. The Peacocks (0-7) loss all 38 games in 2017.
