Samford won its 13th straight game with a dominating 6-0 win at Alabama on Tuesday night. The Bulldogs set the tone with two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Ayrton Schafer and Max Pinto.
Brooks Carlson went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBIs. He had an RBI single in the third and then blasted a solo home run in the sixth. Samford added two more runs in the ninth.
A trio of Bulldog pitchers had its way with a listless Alabama offense. Hamp Skinner, Jack Rude and Wyatt Burns combined on the two-hit shutout. The trio faced four batters over the minimum and at one point retired 13 straight UA hitters.
Sam Praytor and Jett Manning had the lone two singles for Alabama.
Samford (22-14) owns the nation’s third-longest winning streak behind Tennessee Tech (21) and Michigan (16). The Bulldogs 13-game winning streak is the second longest single-season winning streak in school history. Samford had a 17-game winning streak to begin the 1959 season, which was a part of a school-record 28 game winning, dating back to the last 11 games of the 1958 season.
Jacksonville knocked off top-ranked Florida 8-4 in Gainesville. John Cassala led the charge by going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. He smacked a 2-run home run in the seventh to give the Dolphins a four-run lead.
