CWS Finals Game 2: OSU 5, Arkansas 3

2018 CWS LogoMatt Cronin stood on the mound, his right hand raised in the air as three Arkansas defenders tacked the foul pop up of the bat of OSU’s Caydn Greiner. The Razorbacks were about to win their first College World Series championship.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the trophy presentation, the trio of Arkansas defenders – second baseman Carson Shaddy, first baseman Jared Gates and right fielder Eric Cole – watched as the ball dropped amidst the Fayetteville triangle for a foul ball rather than a series clinching out.

CWS Finals Game 1: Arkansas 4, Oregon State 1

2018 CWS LogoArkansas scored all four runs in the fifth inning to defeat Oregon State 4-1 in game one of the 2018 College World Series Championship Series at TD Ameritrade Park on Omaha. The Razorbacks are won win away from the school’s first national championship in baseball.

Arkansas (48-19) sent 10 men to the plate in the decisive four-run fifth inning for the win. The Razorbacks had two singles, two walks and two hit batters in the inning. OSU also made on error. Continue reading “CWS Finals Game 1: Arkansas 4, Oregon State 1”

CWS Recaps (Thursday, June 21)

2018 CWS LogoThree SEC teams – Arkansas, Florid and Miss. State – along with Pac 12 runner up Oregon State make up the Final Four at the 2018 College World Series. This is the second time in CWS history that three teams from the same conference were among the final four teams in Omaha.  Three SEC Eastern Division teams (South Carolina, Florida and Vanderbilt) and Virginia comprised the final four teams in 2011.

An SEC team is guaranteed a spot in the CWS Finals. The SEC team has had a team play in the finals 10 times in the last 11 years, including the 2018 season. Coastal Carolina and Arizona played for the 2016 CWS Championship, which is the only time since 2008 the SEC was not represented in the finals. Continue reading “CWS Recaps (Thursday, June 21)”

CWS Recaps (Tuesday, June 19)

2018 CWS LogoMississippi State went bananas again.

Jordan Westburg, who introduced the “rally banana” to the college baseball world at the 2018 NCAA Tallahassee Regional, drove in seven runs in the Bulldogs 12-2 win over North Carolina on Tuesday morning. Westburg hit a second-inning grand slam and added a three-run double in MSU’s eight-run eighth inning to move the Bulldogs within one win of playing for the national championship.

Florida looked like the No.1 national seed in its 6-1 elimination game win over Texas. Jonathan India knocked in four runs, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning to keep its title hopes alive.

The Arkansas-Texas Tech game was postponed due to the potential of severe weather. The game will played on Wednesday at 11 a.m. on ESPN2. North Carolina and Oregon State will meet in the regularly scheduled game at 6 p.m.

CWS Recap (Monday, June 18)

2018 CWS LogoOregon State came to life after a four-and-one-half hour rain delay to eliminate Washington 14-5 at the 2018 College World Series.  The Mississippi State- North Carolina was postponed until Tuesday at 10 a.m. (CT).

Tuesday’s triple-header includes Miss. State vs. North Carolina (10 a.m.), Florida vs. Texas (65 minutes after game one) and Texas Tech vs. Arkansas (6 p.m.).  Continue reading “CWS Recap (Monday, June 18)”

CWS Recaps (Sunday, June 17)

2018 CWS LogoArkansas endured a nearly three-hour rain delay and then scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat Texas 11-5 to open bracket two play on Sunday afternoon.

Luke Bonfield stroked a 2-run home run to give the Razorbacks a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning.  Arkansas added two more runs in the sixth inning had the bases loaded when the game was stopped due to a lengthy weather delay. SEC Baseball Recaps (Feb. 17)

sec-baseball-logoArkansas, Auburn and Missouri put up big numbers on Saturday as the three teams combined for 79 runs in blowout wins. Arkansas blasted Bucknell 32-4 on the strength of six home runs. The Razorbacks missed the school single-game scoring record (33 runs) by one run. Auburn scored 25 runs in the lopsided win over Longwood and Missouri bashed FIU 22-1. Alabama and Texas A&M both posted walk-off wins to clinch series wins.
