Arkansas and Vanderbilt opened SEC play with three-game sweeps. Arkansas swept Kentucky in Fayetteville. Vanderbilt swept Miss. State in Starkville.
Vanderbilt held MSU to four runs in the weekend series. Arkansas belted 10 home runs in the sweep of the Wildcats.
Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss all had series wins.
Florida, Georgia and Vanderbilt had road series wins.
On the national scene, Siena (0-14) and St. Peter’s (0-7) are the last two winless teams in the country.

Auburn fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in a bizarre series with Northeastern. Casey Mize no-hit the Huskies in Friday’s series opener. The Tigers then jumped on the Huskies on Saturday and took a 14-1 lead into the ninth inning. That’s where the momentum changed. Northeastern scored seven runs in the ninth inning and lost 14-8, but rode that surge into a game-three win. Northeastern starter Sean Mellen no-hit the Tigers for 7.2 innings in the Huskies 2-1 win in the finale. Edouard Julian stroked a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the eighth to break up the no-hitter and shutout. After being no-hit in the series opener, Northeastern out-hit Auburn 22-17 in the final two games.
Alabama senior second baseman Chandler Avant accounted for four of the Crimson Tide’s five runs in the series-clinching 5-2 win over New Mexico State. Avant went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three doubles and two RBIs in the win. He broke the Aggies no-hit bid with a leadoff double in the fifth inning and scored the tying run on Jett Manning’s RBI ground out. He stroked an RBI double and scored on Manning’s RBI single in the Tide’s three-run seventh inning. He capped his day with an RBI double in the eighth inning.
Kentucky has been impressive all season, but have taken to the next level this weekend at home against No. 3 and previously -undefeated Texas Tech. The Wildcats had taken the first two games of the series, winning 10-7 and 11-6. Troy Squires went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, one home run and four RBIs in Saturday’s series-clinching win.
Arkansas, Miss. State and Ole Miss did not play on Saturday due to weather issues. The three teams played double headers on Friday and will conclude their weekend series with a single game on Sunday. Arkansas hosts Kent State, Miss. State hosts Utah Valley State and Ole Miss faces Eastern Illinois. Arkansas and MSU split their double headers on Friday, while Ole Miss swept EIU.
In other weather related news, Vanderbilt and USC were rained out today in Los Angeles. The Commodores wrap up their 7-gama road trip against TCU on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (CT) at Dodger Stadium in the annual Dodgertown Classic.
Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri and South Carolina wrapped up their weekend series on Saturday.
On the national scene, Hofstra threw its second no-hitter of the season in 10-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s at the UMBC Tournament in Baltimore. John Rooney (6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 8 K) and Seamus Brazill (3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) combined on the no-hitter. Brazill was involved in both no-hitters this season. He threw a seven-inning no-hitter at Lamar on Feb. 24. Hofstra had never pitched a no-hitter prior to this season.
Five teams entered the weekend undefeated on the season. Texas Tech (at Kentucky) and Oregon State (Cal State Fullerton) suffered their first loss of the season on Friday. Florida State (at Wake Forest) and Auburn (Northeastern) lost for the first time on Saturday. That leaves Louisville (14-0, 2-0 ACC) as the lone unbeaten team. The Cardinals go for the series sweep on Sunday against North Carolina.

A total of 28 teams topped the 50-point mark on Friday, including Mountain Brook’s thrilling 51-50 double-overtime win over Spain Park.
Eight teams topped the 60-point mark, including Hale County’s 73-0 blowout win over Holt. W.S.
