2020 Pac 12 Conference Football Schedule Announced

Pac 12 LogoThe Pac-12 Conference announced today its 2020 football schedule that pairs a competitive nine-game Conference schedule with a non-conference slate that includes eight contests against five different FBS teams that won 10 or more games during the 2019 season, plus FCS champion North Dakota State and its perfect 16-0 record.

In addition, the 2020 schedule includes 15 games against teams who won eight or more games last season, with five games against teams that finished the 2019 season ranked among the Top 20 – CFP semifinalist No. 3 Ohio State, No. 8 Alabama, No. 12 Notre Dame (twice) and No. 18 Michigan.

A total of 17 games will be against teams who participated in the 2019 bowl season, while the 2020 docket features four games against the Big 12, two more against the Big Ten, Notre Dame and BYU, and one against the SEC. Continue reading “2020 Pac 12 Conference Football Schedule Announced”

Mike Leach Named Head Football Coach at Mississippi State

Mike LeachMike Leach, a two-time national coach of the year, three-time conference coach of the year and the mastermind behind the NCAA record-setting “Air Raid” offense, has been tabbed as Mississippi State’s 34th head football coach, Director of Athletics John Cohen announced Thursday.

“Mike Leach is a proven winner who has established a culture of excellence for nearly two decades as a head coach,” Cohen said. “An offensive genius and two-time national coach of the year, he has a track record of building programs to national prominence with accountability and a blue-collar approach. We are thrilled to welcome him and his family to the Mississippi State family and look forward to watching our football program grow under his leadership.”

“I can’t tell you how excited I am to be the head football coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs,” Leach said. “I loved Washington State, but I am excited for the next chapter in the SEC. It’s a privilege to be a part of the MSU family, and we look forward to getting down to Starkville shortly.”

2019 FBA Bowl Schedule Announced

FBA LogoThe 2019 Football Bowl Association announced the college football bowl schedule on Sunday, Dec. 8. The bowl season begins on Friday, Dec. 20 when Buffalo and Charlotte collide in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl in Nassau.

A total of 78 teams will take part this year, culminating with the College Football Playoff championship game Monday, January 13, 2020.  That will match the winners of the two semifinal games, LSU against Oklahoma in the Chick-fl-A Peach Bowl on December 28, immediately followed that day by Ohio State meeting Clemson In the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl. FCS Playoff Bracket Announced

FCS LogoThe 24 teams in the 2019 FCS football championship field were announced on Sunday, Nov. 24. The tournament will now get started on Saturday, Nov. 30 with eight first-round games.

Follow along below for latest championship news and see the updated bracket, schedule and round-by-round results. This season’s national championship game will be played Jan. 11, 2020 in Frisco, Texas.

Twenty-four teams were selected to the 2019 FCS championship bracket. Ten were awarded automatic qualification via regular season conference championship. The remaining 14 teams were selected at large.

NCAA Division III Football Playoff Bracket Announced

D3 LogoThe NCAA Division III Football Committee announced today the field of 32 teams for the 2019 NCAA Division III Football Championship. The committee selected teams based on conference results and competition within an institution’s respective evaluation region.

Twenty-seven conferences received automatic-qualifying berths. The remaining five berths were awarded to teams from automatic-qualifying conferences that did not win an automatic berth.

The first round of the championship will be played November 23 at the host institution’s campus or at an alternate site approved by the football committee.  The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the national championship game, will be played Friday, December 20, at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah, Texas. NCAA Division II Football Playoff Bracket Revealed

2019 D2 Football Logo.jpgThe NCAA Division II Football Committee announced today the field of 28 teams for the 2019 NCAA Division II Football Championship.

Twelve first-round games will be conducted on the campus of one of the competing institutions. In addition, one team per super regional has earned a first-round bye. The first-round winners will all advance to the second round with games on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Second-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals at various campus sites. Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Illinois LB Dele Harding Named Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week

Dele HardingIllinois linebacker Dele Harding posted 12 tackles and returned an interception 54 yards for a touchdown as the Illini (5-4) beat Rutgers, 38-10. Harding also had two tackles for losses and forced a fumble, compiling an overall stat line that earned him the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Nov. 2, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.

Harding, a 6-1, 230-pound senior from Elkton, Md., became just the second player in the nation in the last 20 seasons to have 12 or more tackles, 2.0 TFL’s, a forced fumble, an interception and a touchdown in a single game. Memphis Named FWAA Team of the Week

Memphis Logo.pngThe Memphis Tigers rolled up 514 total yards behind a record-setting day from receiver Antonio Gibson and took a shootout 54-48 home win over unbeaten SMU. The win in ABC’s prime-time setting earned Memphis (8-1) the Reveal Suits National Team of the Week honor for games of the weekend of Nov. 2.

Gibson exploded for a school-record 386 all-purpose yards and three scores that included a 78-yard touchdown run, a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the second-half and a 50-yard reception. Gibson’s final line was 159 kick return yards, 130 receiving yards and 97 rushing yards. Brady White finished with 350 passing yards, including two touchdowns to Damonte Coxe as part of his 143-yard day.

The win came on the heels of Memphis hosting ESPN’s “College GameDay” on Beale Street with wrestler Jerry Lawler as its guest. This is the second time for Memphis to win the FWAA’s National Team of the Week honor; the other came in 2015 after a 37-24 win over No. 12 Ole Miss that extended the Tigers’ 13-game win streak in front of 60,241 at the Liberty Bowl. Four College Football Teams Top 75 Points

Hardin-Simmons.jpgHardin Simmons, Mary Hardin Baylor, North Central College and Shepherd  University all had big scoring games in their respective football games on Saturday.

Hardin Simmons thumped cross-town rival McMurray 91-29; Mary Hardin-Baylor blasted Louisiana College 82-0; North Central blasted Elmhurst 82-7 and Shepherd defeated East Stroudsburg 76-34;

Hardin Simmons scored the most points in an NCAA Division III game this season. The previous high was 90 points in John Carroll’s 90-0 win over Capital. Mary Hardin-Baylor and North Central both scored 82 points on Saturday, tying for the third-most points by a Division III team this year. La. Tech’s Amik Robertson is Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week

Amik RobertsonLouisiana Tech cornerback Amik Robertson picked off three passes and continued a stat-packed season in the Tech secondary, leading the Bulldogs to a 45-30 win over Southern Miss. The nation’s leader in passes defended became just the third player in school history to have three interceptions in one game, earning him the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week honor for games in the weekend of Oct. 19, as selected by the Football Writers Association of America.
