First Half of College Football Season Closes in LA

LA Coliseum.JPGI closed out the first-half of the 2018 college football at the historic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

The stadium is undergoing a major renovation so construction was very noticeable. As a result, the stadium lost 14,000 seats this year and there was a makeshift press box and suite level.

The LA Coliseum is one of sports most iconic venues. It has hosted two Olympic Games, the Dodgers, Rams, Raiders and USC football. UCLA played here before moving its home games to the Rose Bowl.  Continue reading “First Half of College Football Season Closes in LA”

Pac-12 Opener; So Long to the Oasis

Stanford Stadium.JPGThe second week of the college football was a marquee match-up between two Pac 12 powers.

In rematch of the 2017 Pac 12 Championship Game, USC and Stanford met the 2018 Pac 12 opener at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto. It was one of two AP Top 25 matchups on Sept. 8. USC played in the Pac 12 Conference first game of the season for the eighth straight year. USC and Stanford have played in the Pac 12 opener six times in the last seven years, including five straight years (2014-18).

Stanford won a defensive struggle 17-3. It was the first time USC had been held without a touchdown since a 52-6 loss to No. 1 Alabama in the 2016 season opener. It was lowest scoring total since a 27-0 loss to Washington in 1997. Continue reading “Pac-12 Opener; So Long to the Oasis”
