A Near No-Hitter in Atlanta

Sean NewcombI took in my first Major League Baseball game of the 2018 season on Sunday afternoon as the Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park.

Two of my Alabama baseball friends, Ricky Pendley and Buddy Hughes joined me on the trip to Atlanta.  Ricky and I took in Dodgers-Braves game last season, giving Ricky game in all 30 current MLB parks.  Buddy joined is this season and completed his circle of the 30 current MLB parks

I have seen a game in 34 different MLB stadiums, but have only seen 19 of the 30 current parks. Still some work to do for me, but one day I will get there. Continue reading “A Near No-Hitter in Atlanta”

2018 All-Bats and Blogs Team Named

MacNamee WalkoffThe 2018 All-Bats and Blogs college baseball team was unveiled today. The all-star team was selected by Bats and Blogs publisher and editor Barry Allen. To be eligible for the team, I actually had to see the player in person (at least one game or a number of games) during the 2018 college baseball season.  The stats are based only on the games that I witnessed. Overall, I attended 61 college baseball games this season and saw 27 different Division I teams. There were many great individual performances during the season.

So, here is my 2018 All-Bats and Blogs College Baseball team. Continue reading “2018 All-Bats and Blogs Team Named”

The Brady Bunch house is for sale

Brady Bunch HouseThe Brady Bunch was one of my favorite television shows growing up. It was goofy at times, but they shared a lot of fun moments. The visited amusement parks, took a trip to the Grand Canyon and went to Hawaii.

Several iconic sports figures made appearances on the show, including Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath, Hall of Fame pitcher Don Drysdale and Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Wes Parker.

AL All-Stars Win Again

2018 ASG LogoThe American League won its sixth straight Major League All-Star Game with an 8-6, 10-inning win over the National League at the 89th MLB All-Star Game at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

The teams combined for All-Star Game record 10 home runs in the game. Houston Astros teammates Alex Bregman and George Springer hit back-to-back home runs off Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ross Striplin in the 10th inning.

10 Homers Set All-Star Game Record

Bregman was named the 2018 Ted Williams Most Valuable Player following the game. Bregman finished 1-for-3 with one home run and one RBI as the backup third baseman.

Bregman Leads AL Past NL in All-Star Game

A former LSU All-American shortstop, Bregman became the fifth SEC player to hit an All-Star Game home run, joining Auburn’s Bo Jackson (1989), Miss. State’s Will Clark (1992), Auburn’s Frank Thomas (1995) and Tennessee’s Todd Helton (2003).

Bregman and Jackson are the only two former SEC players to earn All-Star Game MVP honors.

Bregman Earns MVP Honors

The American League has won the last six All-Star games and 13 of 14 overall. The AL now leads the all-time series 44-43-2. This marks the first time since 1963 the AL has held the series lead in the All-Star Game.

On a personal note, I have attended 12 different All-Star events across all levels of baseball, including the 1993 All-Star Game (Baltimore), 1995 All-Star Game (Arlington), 1996 All-Star Game (Philadelphia) and 1999 All-Star Game (Boston).

Other events include 1991 Southern League All-Star Game (Chattanooga), 1993 MLB Home Run Derby (Baltimore), 1994 Triple-A All-Star Game (Nashville), 1995 Double-A All Star Game (Shreveport), 1996 Double-A All-Star Game (Trenton, NJ), 1999 Futures Game (Boston), 1999 MLB Home Run Derby (Boston), 2003 Southern League All-Star Game (Knoxville) and 2009 Southern League All-Star Game (Birmingham).
