College Baseball Notebook (Feb. 21)

Bryce_Jarvis_PGA perfect game, two no-hitters and one triple play highlight Friday’s NCAA college baseball action.

Duke RHP Bryce Jarvis threw the first perfect game in Duke history in the 8-0 win over Cornell. Ottawa (NAIA) RHP Jared Gray fired the seventh no-hitter in school history in a 7-0 win over Ecclesia. A trio of Ole Miss pitchers fired a no-hitter in the series-opening win over Xavier.

Sam Houston State turned an around-the-horn triple play on Friday. It was their since 2017.

College Baseball Notebook (April 21)

NCAA LogoAustin Peay scored a season-high 22 runs and three players had at least six RBIs in a 22-11 win at UT Martin. DH Matt Joslin RF Parker Phillips and 1B Andrew Flaherty combined for four home runs and 19 RBIs in the win … Clemson is riding a 7-game losing streak after suffering back-to-back sweeps at home to Florida State and Duke … Columbia first baseman Chandler Bengston hit three home runs in a double header sweep of Brown … Duke completed its first three-game sweep at sweep at Clemson since 1948 … Michigan State earned its first Big Ten win of the season with a 5-3 win over Rutgers in game one of Sunday’s double header … Purdue Fort Wayne is the only winless Division I team in conference play following a pair of losses to Omaha … UMBC second baseman AJ Wright finished a single shy of the cycle in the 8-2 win over Hartford.

College Baseball Notebook (April 20)

NCAA LogoA total of 39 games were affected by weather on Friday … All five Big South Conference games were postponed and five double headers on the docket for Saturday … The ACC had six games affected by weather with five rain outs and one suspended game … Maine senior RHP Nick Silva tossed a 7-inning no hitter in the Black Bears 4-1 win over UMass in game one of Friday’s double header … Freshman pinch hitter Ryan Turenne hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh as the Black Bears earned the win … Bradley extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 12 games with a 2-1 win at Dallas Baptist … UC Santa Barbara won its 11th straight game with a 7-0 win over UC Davis … Purdue Fort Wayne (0-16 Summit League) and Michigan State (0-9 Big Ten) both remained winless in conference play … St. John’s left fielder Mike Antico went 4-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBIs in the Red Storm’s 24-6 win over Villanova … Stanford belted five home runs in a 20-5 win over Oregon.

College Baseball Diamond Notes

NCAA BaseballStanford, East Carolina and Ball State all take 10-game winning streaks into the weekend … Tufts College (NCAA Division III) posted a 30-2 win over Salem State on Monday, April 1 … Salem State scored two runs in the top of the first inning before the Jumbos offense got into high gear, scoring 10 runs in the third, seven runs in the fourth and nine runs in the fifth inning … The 30 runs were the most scored by Tufts since 1987 … Tufts third baseman Elias Varinos went 6-for-7 with five runs scored and six RBIs in the win … Lehigh and Maryland Eastern Shore both erased 11-run deficits on Wednesday to post epic comeback wins … Lehigh rallied from an 11-0 deficit to defeat St. Joseph’s 20-15  … UMES trailed 11-0 after five innings but rallied for 16-12 win.
