CWS Capsule: Texas Tech Red Raiders

Texas Tech LogoTexas Tech is the No. 9 national seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders have made to Omaha for the third time (2014, 2016 and 2018) in school history.

Texas Tech will take on No. 1 seed Florida on Sunday at 6 p.m. at TD Ameritrade Park. Tech is 1-4 (.200) all-time in CWS play and its lone win came against Florida in 2016.

Texas Tech leads the Big 12 in 11 different offensive categories. Texas Tech has four of the top eight hitters (batting average) in the Big 12 play this season.

CWS Capsule: Florida Gators

Florida LogoFlorida is the No. 1 national seed in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. The No. 1 seed has advanced to the CWS 14 times. The only No. 1 seed to win the College World Series was Miami (Fla.) in 1999. The No. 1 seed finished runner up in 2004 (Texas) and 2009 (Texas).

Florida is the defending College World Series champion. The Gators defeated LSU to win the school’s first CWS title in 2017. Florida is seeking to become the seventh school to win back-to-back CWS titles.

Florida opens CWS play against No.9 national seed Texas Tech on Sunday at 6 p.m.

CWS Capsule: Texas Longhorns

Texas LogoTexas has more College World Series appearances (36), games (144) and wins (85) than any team in NCAA history. Texas has six College World Series championships (1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002 and 2005). The six CWS titles are tied with LSU for second-most in NCAA history.

Texas is one of six schools to win back-to-back CWS Championships, including Texas (1949-50), USC (1970-74), Stanford (1987-88), LSU (1996-97), OSU (2006-07) and South Carolina (2010-11).

Texas and Arkansas will play game three of the 2018 CWS on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT). Texas has won three of the four CWS meetings between the two former SWC Conference rivals.

CWS Capsule: Arkansas Razorbacks

Arkansas LogoArkansas and Texas will square off on day two of the 2018 College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska. The Razorbacks and Longhorns met twice during the regular season, with Arkansas winning, 13-4 and 7-5 on March 13-14 in Fayetteville.

Arkansas and Texas are both former members of the Southwest Conference. The teams will be meeting for the fifth time in history at the CWS. Arkansas defeated Texas 9-4 in 1979. Texas posted wins in 1985, 1987 and 2004.

Byrne Named 2018 Stopper of the Year

NCBWA Stopper of the Year LogoFlorida junior Michael Byrne was named the 2018 Stopper of the Year on Saturday at TD Ameritrade Park. The award is presented annually by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association to the nation’s top relief pitcher.
